If you choose to use a modem to access the internet, you must be aware that it will use the phone line in your room. That means that your phone will be "busy" to anyone calling. You are also responsible for any long-distance phone charges. So be sure to only use a local number. Note: Branch campuses can not dial into their campus from the residence halls. University Park campus allows residence hall students to dial in from the residence halls. 1. Getting the Software: The easiest way to configure your modem to use dial-up at PSU is to download the Penn State Connection (850 kb) software. Be sure to save it somewhere like the Desktop where you can easily access it after it is downloaded. 2. Installation When the download finishes, locate the file where you saved it and double click on it. Be sure to check Yes for the license agreement. 3. Configuration After the program is installed, it places a shortcut on your desktop to use when you want to make a connection. BEFORE you sign on, click the Properties button in that window and and click on Phonebook to select the appropriate phone number for your campus location. When you run that program, you will be prompted for a User ID and password. You will use your ITS User ID and password to login to the University. |
