| ResCom employs only full time students enrolled only at
University Park campus. The ResCom program is designed to provide computer
software and limited hardware support for students living on campus. This program
is sponsored by Penn State Housing. ResCom is currently hiring students
that can troubleshoot connection issues, some hardware, install software patches, critical updates, or can recognize and remove
viruses / spy-ware. Employees are expected to have the ability to
demonstrate and provide professional customer service for
the students we serve. Many candidates gain experience by helping friends,
family, neighbors, or have worked for companies where they
performed similar duties. Excellent oral and written communication skills
are essential and expected.
Candidates must email a resume in
MS
Word format to the email address listed below. Make sure your resume contains all information
that qualifies you to be considered for a position. Avoid just bulleting
words under skills without including some supporting sentences to specify
what your skill is. Skill is not assumed, you need to qualify it. Some Macintosh experience is
helpful but not required.
Candidates must
meet or exceed the skills listed below. ResCom provides some "on the job
training" however, some specific experience is required.
Conditions for employment and necessary qualifications:
- Must have and maintain a full time student status when hired and employed by ResCom.

consecutive semesters at PSU and are able to work at least 3
semesters in a row before you graduate. Few
exceptions may apply.

service.

expansion
cards, detecting and removing viruses, worms, and spy-ware, reformatting PCs,
and skillfully troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

ResCom and university policies and procedures.

learning and sharing information that supports the ResCom team.

before
the fall arrival period each year. Training is held the week before classes start.
Fall
training is "mandatory" so employees must exercise effective time
management to
meet this requirement each arrival period.
ResCom employees love their job and usually work here until they graduate. ResCom is
interested in candidates that want a job until they graduate. ResCom
employees are able to use the
experience gained at ResCom in their future careers.
Your resume will be reviewed and you may be
contacted for an interview. Make sure your resume reflects the skills
needed by ResCom. Your resume sells your capabilities and should clearly
show why ResCom should consider hiring you. This is a regular job and the team
works hard to provide valued service to its customers. References are requested
with your resume. Many jobs on campus offer more flexibility than ResCom can. If you need more flexibilityyou may want to apply elswhere on campus. ResCom can be
flexible to a point but due to the responsibility ResCom has to it's public ResCom needs to make sure it's staff works when scheduled and will work before semesters open and up until residence halls empty out for a semester.
New employees work and train in East Halls until they
demonstrate they are ready to move on to a different help desk. If you feel you qualify or can demonstrate
you would be an excellent candidate to work for ResCom, send a detailed resume in
MS
Word format to cfr3@psu.edu.
