How to Manually Update Norton Antivirus

Figure 1.1 - Find the icon* in the system tray.

Once you find the Antivirus Icon in the system tray, if you double click it, you'll get the main Antivirus Client window, shown in figure 2.

*this is what the icon looks like for the version you can get from PSU, you might have another version that was already installed on your computer, we can replace it with this version if yours is out of date.

Figure 1.2 - the lower right part of the Antivirus Client window

This is part of the window that will open after you double click the icon in the system tray. You should be concerned with the lower right corner, where it is circled. The "Version" listed is the date of the virus definitions you are currently using. If this is out of date (by more than a couple days) then you should go ahead and click the "LiveUpdate..." button.

Figure 1.3 - the LiveUpdate window

From this window, you just click "Next" and LiveUpdate will check to see if there are any virus definition updates or updates for the Antivirus Client program itself. If it finds anything you just continue to click "Next" and it will download and install them on its own. Then just click "Finish" when it's done. Your Symantec Security Client should now be up to date and protecting your from the latest virus threats.

Figure 2.4 - Choose what you want to do with your account

In this window you have a few options and a couple different things could be displayed here. If your account does NOT have a password it will say "Create a password" in place of "Change my password" and you will definitely want to click that. When you do, it will go through a series of screens that will help your create your password, they're pretty self-explainatory. Or, if you already have a password, you can select "Change my password" and change it to something else. Like the create menu, you'll be given a couple windows guiding your through making a new password.
